To better serve the needs of the local community, Gee and Hickton Funeral Directors have completely refurbished and redesigned the chapel, catering lounge and offices at Cornwall Manor, in Lower Hutt at a cost of $3 million. The premises have been gutted, rebuilt and completely refurbished, resulting in a chapel capable of seating up to 220 people (or up to 400 under cover for larger funerals), with a silent water feature at the front and plenty of natural lighting. The catering lounge for get-togethers after the funeral is immediately adjacent to the chapel.
There are new family viewing suites, a casket display area and headstone showroom, and the interior is climate controlled, with eco-friendly options where possible. These include insulation and fitted heat pumps throughout, plenty of natural light, and large underground storage tanks to reuse rainwater for tasks such as washing the cars.
Traditional landscaping has been added to fit the tone and period of the old manor and additional parking is now available.
We also offer a modern and comfortable chapel and reception facilities at Upper Hutt with off-street parking.
In the weeks after the funeral is over, it can help to have someone on hand who understands what a difficult time this can be coping with grief and Gee & Hickton Funeral Directors offers, free of charge, a bereavement support person to talk things through. We also offer a free book (or colourful poster for children) to help you understand the effects of grief.
Gee & Hickton provides a range of high quality granite headstones and commemorative plaques that we can arrange to have installed in cemeteries anywhere in Wellington or the Hutt Valley with the inscription and decorative memorabilia of your choice. Photographs, portraits and other mementoes can be either etched (sand-carved) on to the headstone, or included in a ceramic design set onto the stone.
Cremation can be provided at our own facility at Akatarawa.
